The family of a 36-year-old man from Ha Nam Province, northern Vietnam, who was declared brain-dead last Saturday, donated his heart, liver, and kidneys, providing hope to four patients in need of life-saving transplants.
The donor, Le Tien S., was taken to Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi after a stroke left him in critical condition 10 days earlier.
Before arriving at the institution, he experienced a severe headache and lost consciousness, followed by respiratory and cardiac arrest.
S. received emergency treatment but soon slipped into a coma.
He was later transferred to the stroke center at Bach Mai Hospital; however, his condition showed no improvement and he did not respond to any treatment.
After nine days of intensive care, he was still comatose, lost reflexes, and was at risk of brain death.
The hospital explained his state to his family and introduced a tissue and organ donation program aimed at saving patients in need of life-saving transplants.
His family expressed their wish to donate his organs to save other patients.

S. was declared brain-dead at 5:30 am on October 26.
The National Coordinating Center for Human Organ Transplantation, along with Viet Duc University Hospital, 108 Military Central Hospital, and Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi, and Hue Central Hospital in central Thua Thien-Hue Province, later collaborated to carry out the organ removal and transplant procedures.
His heart was transported to Thua Thien-Hue and surgically transplanted into a heart failure patient.
It was successful within the hour, according to a representative of the Hue Central Hospital.
The representative also confirmed that the organ recipient is now on the road to recovery.
S.'s liver was donated to a patient suffering from liver failure at 108 Military Central Hospital, while both kidneys were transplanted into two separate patients at Bach Mai Hospital.
Dao Xuan Co, director of Bach Mai Hospital, remarked on the significance of this donation, describing it as a transition of lives.
He said that S.'s organs have given new life to other patients, highlighting the profound impact of organ donation on the community.
