Police in Hanoi are investigating a fatal traffic incident in which a swarm of reckless motorcyclists speeding and weaving through traffic collided with a female motorcyclist stopping at a red light, resulting in her immediate death on Saturday night.

A video of the crash that has circulated on social media since Sunday showed a group of dozens of young people riding motorcycles at top speed when they hit the woman at the intersection of Tran Hung Dao and Ba Trieu Streets in Hoan Kiem District.

Local police have arrested nine young people in the group aged between 16 and 19.

Among them, the 16-year-old N.T.M.K. and the 19-year-old N.H.N. confessed to directly crashing into the victim. Following the crash, N. was injured and hospitalized for treatment.

Police officers found that at 11:50 pm on Saturday, N.H.Q., a 27-year-old resident in Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi, was waiting at the red light when she was struck by the group of speeding motorcyclists who left the scene following the collision.

The group of motorcyclists moved at full speed in Hanoi on November 2, 2024.
