Tan Lak Tho, general director of Wilhelm Hauffmann, based in Singapore and the producer of Eagle Brand Medicated Oil, on Thursday visited the police headquarters in Long An Province, southern Vietnam to present a letter of appreciation to Colonel Lam Minh Hong, director of the Long An police department, thanking him for overseeing the investigation and handling of a case involving 30,000 counterfeit oil bottles being sold on e-commerce platform Shopee.

Colonel Nguyen Van Hoa, deputy director of the provincial police department, received Tho and got the letter from him under the authority of the director of the department.

Tho said the seizure and takedown of a fake medicated oil production and trading ring helps protect the interest and benefits of customers and safeguard the reputation of the manufacturer.

The economic police division under the provincial police department had previously discovered a shop selling foreign-branded medicated oil on the e-commerce platform Shopee.

The shop, called ‘Mum Shop - Chuyen Dau Gio’ (Mum Shop - Specializes in Medicated Oil), was followed by 3,200 Shopee users.

After launching an investigation into its business operations, the police found that some non-residents had rented a house in Long Trach Commune in Can Duoc District to produce counterfeit medicated oil.

In late September, police officers raided the house and caught Truong The An, a 30-year-old resident of Tien Giang Province, a neighbor of Long An Province, Hoang Van Hung 19, who lives in Dong Nai Province, and Nguyen Gia H., 17, resident of Tra Vinh Province, red-handed producing fake medicated oil.

The police confiscated 30,000 fake Eagle brand medicated oil bottles, 110,000 empty bottles, 1.8 metric tons of packaging, 600 kilograms of bottle lids, 183 kilograms of labels, and 217 kilograms of usage instruction paper, as well as several tools and equipment.

An admitted that he bought chemicals and fragrances for the mixture and hired Hung and H. for his counterfeit medicated oil production.

These counterfeit medicated oil bottles were delivered to Hoang Thi Hue, 31, who resides in Dong Nai Province, to sell on ‘Mum Shop - Chuyen Dau Gio’ on Shopee.

The investigative police charged An, Hung, and H. with fake goods production.

An and Hung were held in custody, while H., under 18, was granted bail.

The police are expanding the investigation into the case.
