-- Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam talked over the phone with Donald Trump on Monday evening, congratulating Trump on being elected the 47th U.S. president while highly valuing the latter’s contributions to the development of the two countries’ relations, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

-- Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font hosted a welcome ceremony in Santiago on Monday for Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong, who is on an official visit to the South American country through Tuesday.

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday offered his congratulations to Ishiba Shigeru over his reappointment as the prime minister of Japan, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Society

-- International tourists to Khanh Hoa Province in south-central Vietnam made up 30 percent of the country’s total of 12.7 million in January-September, heard a conference on Monday.

-- Typhoon Toraji entered the East Vietnam Sea and became the eighth to hit the sea this year, while typhoon Yinxing, the seventh to strike the sea, weakened into a tropical depression on Monday evening, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

-- The 2024 Vietnam International Defense Expo is set to take place between December 19 and 22 in Hanoi and cover an area of over 100,000 square meters, including nearly 35,000 square meters for displaying defense industry products.

-- Vietnam's digital economy is continuing to show solid double-digit growth and is forecast to reach a gross merchandise value of US$36 billion in 2024, with e-commerce accounting for $22 billion, according to the e-Conomy SEA 2024 report by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company.

-- Vietnam’s state-run lottery company Vietlott announced on Monday the winner of the American-style Power 6/55 jackpot worth over VND148 billion ($5.9 million).

World News

-- “U.S. climate envoy John Podesta urged governments to keep faith in the country's promise to combat global warming, saying Donald Trump can slow, not stop, the transition from fossil fuels when he returns to office in January,” Reuters reported.

-- “Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday announced 3.76 billion euros ($4.01 billion) in additional measures to reconstruct the Valencia area after the deadliest flash floods in Spain's modern history,” according to Reuters.
