Traffic police in Da Nang City, central Vietnam fined two trailer truck drivers and their employers almost US$6,000 for carrying massive objects which were much longer and larger than the size of their vehicles without a permit, officers said on Sunday.
Police said they detected a trailer truck operated by a transport cooperative in Tien Giang Province, southern Vietnam and another managed by a company in Ho Chi Minh City showing signs of violations when traveling on a National Highway 1 section in Da Nang.
They stopped the vehicles for a check and found that one of them was carrying oversized cargo without a permit.
The driver of the other trailer truck presented a valid permit for transporting oversized cargo; however, the specific goods on the vehicle were not listed in the documentation.
As a result, police officers seized the two vehicles and fined the drivers and their employers VND148 million (US$5,821).
The two truckers also had their driver’s licenses suspended for three months.
They were required to unload the cargo from the vehicles.
A local police officer stated that the two drivers exploited the rainy weather to operate their trucks within the city, despite a ban on such activity.
Police foresaw the situation, so they sent plainclothes officers to follow the trucks and cooperated with another group of police officers to intercept the vehicles.
