The Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore is working with local authorities to investigate the murder of a Vietnamese woman who was fatally stabbed at her workplace in the city-state on Tuesday.
Singaporean authorities confirmed that the victim in the knife attack in Hougang was Dao Thi Hong, a 34-year-old Vietnamese national and a mother of three young children.
The embassy is assisting with the investigation and helping the victim’s family with funeral arrangements.
The Strait Times reported on Tuesday that Hong had been killed at the Quan Long Nippon Paint hardware store at Block 210 Hougang Street 21.
At around 11:00 am that day, a 42-year-old man, believed to be also a worker at the store, stabbed Hong repeatedly in front of witnesses.
Another colleague who tried to intervene and the suspect also sustained injuries.
The Singapore Civil Defense Force confirmed that it had taken the three injured individuals to hospital for treatment.
Her flatmate recounted that Hong was initially conscious when rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
A friend of hers said that Hong had moved to Singapore from Hanoi about five years ago for work.
Hong’s family has arrived in Singapore to arrange her funeral.
The suspect, identified as Chinese national Du Zaixing, has been charged with murder and appeared in court on Thursday, The Strait Times reported the same day.
If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
The suspect is currently being held on remand but may be taken back to the crime scene as part of ongoing investigations.
His case is scheduled to return to court on December 19.
