Domestic water in the tanks of several apartment buildings in Ho Chi Minh City fails to meet regulatory standards, according to this year’s monitoring results from the municipal Department of Health.
The unsatisfactory indicators include residual chlorine, total coliforms, E. coli, and other contaminants.
There has been no specific disclosure regarding each index or the identities of the apartments with substandard water quality.
Some areas with centralized water tanks in districts and Thu Duc City also fail to meet the standards.
These results implicate the risk of disease and pose a threat to public health when using domestic water sources.
Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has tasked districts and Thu Duc City with directing relevant units to instruct apartment building management boards to establish procedures for flushing tanks and conducting periodic water quality inspections.
In cases where an apartment building lacks a management board, its self-management team must implement a plan to assign personnel for tank flushing and regular water quality checks in accordance with regulations.
Local authorities are also required to intensify inspections, supervision, and enforcement, and to take action against non-compliance with legal regulations that affect public health regarding the supply and use of domestic water within their jurisdiction.
