Floods, triggered by torrential rains, have caused residents living along the Tra Cau River in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam to flee their homes four times over the past two months.
The provincial steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control, search, and rescue said on Saturday that it was keeping a close watch on rains and rising water levels of local rivers to take timely action.
The rain volume was measured at 288 millimeters at Ba Dien Station, at 236 millimeters at Ba Cung Station, and at 273 millimeters at Ba Lien Station on Saturday.
Rainfall at Ba Le and Hanh Tin Tay Stations measured 173mm and 196mm, respectively.
Heavy rains have sent the water levels of local rivers skyrocketing.
The water level on the Tra Cau River reached 5.77 meters at 9:00 am on the same day, surpassing alert level three, while the level on the Ve River was recorded at 3.03 meters.
The tide levels of the two rivers were forecast to continue rising rapidly due to torrential rains.
The floods have damaged thousands of hectares of rice fields in Duc Pho Town, and displaced several households living along the Tra Cau Rivers four times over the past two months.
Many mountainous districts run a high risk of landslides.

Nguyen Hoang Giang, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, declared landslide emergency in Tra Linh Village, Tra Thuy Commune, Tra Bong District as a landslide hit the area.
The steering committee has urged local departments and authorities to proactively brace for heavy rains that might cause landslides and flash floods.
It is urgent to evacuate residents in flood-hit areas to safer places, according to the steering committee.
The provincial Department of Education and Training was asked to adopt effective measures to ensure safety for students, teachers, and schools before, during, and after the floods.
