Security officers at Da Nang International Airport in Da Nang City, central Vietnam detected two separate cases of passengers attempting to bring explosives and a replica gun onto flights last month.
On the morning of January 24, screening officers at the domestic terminal flagged a suspicious carry-on bag during security checks for flight VU 673 from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City.
The bag belonged to 16-year-old Gia B. from Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City.
Inside the bag, the security officers found a plastic container filled with a powdery substance suspected to be an explosive along with wires resembling slow-burning fuses.
Further inspection using the Rapiscan ITEMISER 5X device confirmed the presence of nitrate-based explosives (NH₄NO₃ – ammonium nitrate).
Authorities immediately took action, confiscating the materials and detaining the passenger.
The case was handed over to the airport’s police division for further investigation and legal processing.

One day later, on January 25, security personnel at the international departure terminal discovered another alarming case.
A 54-year-old Thai national, T.K., preparing to board flight VZ965 to Bangkok, was found carrying a disassembled metal gun replica, plastic bullets, and electrical wires in his checked luggage.
T.K. claimed to be a 'special effects expert' specializing in explosive effects, but he failed to provide valid documentation allowing him to transport such restricted items.
Airport security confiscated the materials and referred the case to the city’s police agency for further action.
