Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized the need for a timely and seamless transfer of aviation security responsibilities from the Ministry of Transport to the Ministry of Public Security at a national conference on Tuesday.

The conference, held both in person and online, involved discussions on the transition process and the 2025 tasks for the National Civil Aviation Security Committee.

Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, urged careful review of measures, infrastructure, and human resources involved in the transition to ensure aviation security.

He stressed the need for additional investment where necessary.

Deputy Prime Minister Ha underscored the importance of aviation security for national safety, warning that even minor issues could pose significant risks.

He called for continued improvements to address gaps identified by the International Civil Aviation Organization regarding aviation accident investigations and crisis management.

He also instructed the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Information and Communications, and relevant enterprises to urgently assess the security of aviation data systems and review equipment, infrastructure, and personnel needs.

“The handover must be completed on schedule and comprehensively, covering legal frameworks, policies, and resources to ensure continuous aviation security without disrupting operations,” the official said.

He further urged the Ministry of Public Security to review equipment and infrastructure, establish a national aviation security database, and organize regular drills to ensure preparedness for aviation incidents.

The Ministry of Public Security was also tasked with organizing emergency security drills for major national events in 2025.

According to the Ministry of Transport, in 2024, Vietnamese airlines transported 76.4 million passengers and 1.29 million metric tons of cargo.

Authorities identified and addressed 294 aviation security violations, including 49 thefts on aircraft and 17 at airports.
