Vietnam will play against Singapore in their opener at the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U23 Youth Championship qualifiers at 7:00 pm on Saturday (Vietnam time).
The game, scheduled to take place at the Prince Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, will be broadcast live on national channel VTV6 and the FPT Play platform.
Singapore kicked off their campaign at the tourney with a 1-3 loss against Thailand at the same stadium on Wednesday.
A win over Vietnam on Saturday’s match will be a must for the Singaporean players to avoid elimination.
Vietnam only brought its U21 team to the tournament in Cambodia.
Four players and a coach of the team had suspected positive COVID-19 tests on Friday, according to the Vietnam Football Federation, while the Singaporean squad also includes many coronavirus cases.
Previously, Indonesia and Myanmar had withdrawn from the tournament due to player shortage caused by the pandemic.
The 2022 AFF U23 Youth Championship has three groups.
Group A has hosts Cambodia, Timor Leste, the Philippines and Brunei while Group B has Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos.
Vietnam and arch rivals Thailand have been drawn in Group C alongside Singapore.
The top team of each group and the best second-placed team will enter the semifinals.
The championship started on Monday and will conclude on February 26.
