Vietnam scored a breathtaking 2-1 victory over Qatar in their second group-stage match at the 2023 AFC U20 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan on Saturday evening.

Qatar started off the match very aggressively as they needed to earn three points after losing to Iran in their opener.

They challenged Vietnam’s goalie Cao Van Binh with two dangerous shots within just 10 minutes into the match.

However, Qatar quickly lost their touch and were unable to stage any considerable attacks in the remaining of the first half.

Vietnam once again showed their good defense, and the Golden Stars also mounted a lot of impressive counterattacks.

In the 43rd minute, Nguyen Duc Viet stole the ball in midfield, opening a counterattack and passing it to Nguyen Van Truong.

Truong later passed the ball to Nguyen Quoc Viet, allowing Vietnam to score the first goal.

Qatar evened the scoring in the second half thanks to a penalty kick after Ahmed Al Rawi was pushed by Nguyen Duc Anh in the box.

Vietnam still gave their best efforts until the very last minute of the match, with Van Truong netting the breathtaking second goal for the Golden Stars in the 90th minute.

The Vietnamese currently top Group B with six points after winning both matches, and their door to the quarterfinals is wide open.

The 2023 AFC U20 Asian Cup kicked off in Uzbekistan on Wednesday and will last until March 18.

There are 16 teams competing in the tournament.
