Vietnam will organize the Golfzon Vietnam Championship 2023 – a professional golf tournament using 3D simulation technology – from July 8 to August 20.

The tournament will include two rounds, with the qualifying round taking place from July 8 to August 6 and the final round from August 19 and 20.

Prizes of the tournament total VND600 million (US$25,329), including VND120 million ($5,066) for the winner.

The organizer will use lifelike 3D golf simulation technology which provides a unique and innovative form of golf competition and allows the tournament to take place in locations across the country over the course of a month.

Participants can compete with flexibility in their tea times and locations while all experiencing the exact same competition conditions.

The organizer of the event expects that it will boost Vietnam’s golf industry as it seeks to keep pace with advances in golfing technology and create more training and competition opportunities for local golfers.

The organizer previously held a smaller-scale amateur tourney in December last year.

The professional competition requires a more complicated organizational structure and is expected to attract more golfers, according to Nguyen Thai Duong, deputy secretary of the Vietnam Golf Association.

“I hope the trend of playing golf using simulation technology will help the sport become more popular in Vietnam,” Duong said, adding that 3D golf allows golfers to play while saving on costs and not being affected by weather.

The Vietnam Golf Association will equip 3D golf courts with cameras and mobilize leading golf referees in Vietnam to ensure the fairness of the tournament.
