The eighth international festival of Vietnamese traditional martial arts will take place from August 2 to 5 in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, south-central Vietnam, the provincial administration announced on Friday.

The opening ceremony, scheduled to be held at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square in Quy Nhon, will feature arts performances given by martial arts masters, practitioners, famous singers and artists, and martial arts clubs at home and abroad.

The eighth edition will feature martial arts performances, a photo exhibition on operations of domestic and international martial arts clubs and schools.

It will also entail visits to martial arts clubs, historical and relic sites, and other tourist attractions in Binh Dinh.

The event organizer will hold a workshop between August 3 and 4, during which participants will discuss measures to boost the development of Vietnamese traditional martial arts by 2030.

Lam Hai Giang, vice-chairman of the provincial administration, said that the festival is aimed at honoring Vietnamese traditional cultural values and introducing the country and local people to international friends.

The festival will enable martial arts clubs at home and overseas to meet and share experience in conserving and promoting Vietnamese traditional martial arts, moving closer toward a goal of seeking UNESCO recognition as intangible cultural heritage of the world, the official said.

Through its seven editions over the past 17 years, the international festival of Vietnamese traditional martial arts has attracted thousands of masters, instructors and practitioners of martial arts from over 30 countries and territories.
