Vietnam is preparing to dispatch a delegation of 504 members to the upcoming 19th Asian Games, also known as ASIAD, set to take place in China later this month.

The decision to establish the Vietnamese sports delegation comprising 320 athletes and send them to the 19th ASIAD in Hangzhou Province, China was signed by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung on Thursday.

Vietnam will participate in 31 sports and target between three and five gold medals at the quadrennial tournament, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The 19th ASIAD in Hangzhou Province features a total of 40 sports and 481 events.

Originally slated for September 10-25, 2022, the tournament was rescheduled to this year due to COVID-19 concerns in China.

The revised dates, September 23 to October 8, 2023, were officially announced on July 19, 2022.

While the opening ceremony is scheduled for September 23, certain sports, including football, are slated to kick off their competitions on September 19.

The Vietnamese sports delegation is set to depart for China for the Games on September 19.

At the previous ASIAD in Indonesia, Vietnam fielded a team of 532 members, including 352 athletes, and secured five gold medals, along with 15 silver medals and 19 bronze medals.
