At just 1.74m-tall, Huynh Vinh Quang is far from the tallest player in the league, but that has not stopped him from dominating the court and keeping the Nha Trang Dolphins’ 2023 VBA championship dreams alive.

The Nha Trang Dolphins had been off to a rocky start in the 2023 VBA finals after suffering two defeats to the Saigon Heat in the five-game series.

Game 3, however, proved to be a major turning point for the Dolphins thanks to Huynh Vinh Quang, the 1.74m-tall guard who managed to carry the team to a much needed victory.

Though Quang was recognized in 2022 as Vietnam’s top homegrown player, he spent most of the 2023 finals warming the bench, likely due to his height.

He finally had his breakout performance for the season when he was put in for 20 minutes during the third game of the 2023 VBA Finals, chalking up 20 points, including four three-pointers.

His remarkable performance pushed the Nha Trang Dolphins into the lead and allowed them to maintain relentless pressure on the Saigon Heat, resulting in a 95-74 victory.

Not only was it a critical win for the Dolphins, but it was Quang’s most outstanding performance of the season.

Other highlights of the game included Dolphins shooting guard Vo Huy Hoan’s steal from Saigon Heat superstar Kentrell Bearkley and a subsequent buzzer-beater at the end of the first quarter.

Forward Nguyen Phuc Vinh also had a stunning performance, driving the ball down the court and into the hoop several times during the second quarter.

The Dolphins’ performance was a big shock to fans, who thought the Saigon Heat already had the finals locked up. 

The fourth match of the five-game series is slated for September 28.
