Vietnam’s top-tier football league, V.League 1, has been ranked lower than the Thai League 1 and the Malaysia Super League in the latest Club Competitions Ranking by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

The V.League 1 ranks 14th in the Asian region and seventh in the East Asia zone, garnering 28.657 points.

The Thai League 1 places fourth in East Asia and eighth in Asia with 49.546 points, while the Malaysia Super League stands sixth in East Asia and 12th in Asia with 31.331 points.

With a total of 103.148 points to their name, chart-toppers Saudi Arabia are followed by Japan and South Korea in the second and third places with 96.999 and 93.600 points, respectively.

In East Asia alone, the top three national tournaments are those of Japan, South Korea, and China.

As a result of these rankings, Vietnam will have one direct slot and a play-off place for local teams competing in the AFC Champions League Two in the 2025-26 season.

According to its new format, the AFC has introduced a three-tiered AFC Champions League, including the AFC Champions League Elite, AFC Champions League Two, and the AFC Challenge League.

This year, the V.League 1 has no representative participating in the AFC Champions League Elite as both Hanoi FC and Hai Phong FC were eliminated from the group stage of the 2023-24 season.

Meanwhile, Malaysia have earned a direct slot for the AFC Champions League Elite and one direct slot for the AFC Champions League Two.

Thailand have one direct slot and a play-off place for the AFC Champions League Elite, as well as a direct slot for the AFC Champions League Two.
