Vietnam are planning on two high-profile football friendly matches against Russia and Thailand next month, both at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, according to the Vietnam Football Federation.

If the plan is confirmed later this week, Vietnam will face Russia on September 5 and Thailand on September 10, both at 7:30 pm at My Dinh.

These matches align with FIFA Days, which designates dates for official and friendly international games.

According to the FIFA rankings updated on July 18, Vietnam are ranked 115th, compared to Russia in 33rd and Thailand in 101st.

Over the past five years, Vietnam have played Thailand seven times, with one win, four draws, and two losses.

Vietnam’s sole victory over Thailand occurred during the King’s Cup 2019 friendly, with the only goal netted by veteran striker Nguyen Anh Duc.

The upcoming friendly matches against Thailand and Russia are considered crucial for Vietnam’s preparation for the 2024 ASEAN Championship, scheduled for November 23 to December 21.

Vietnam U20s are set to play two friendlies against Russia U20s on September 6 and 8.
