Germany’s Bundesliga pledged to send more clubs for friendly matches with Vietnam’s national team during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on Wednesday, outlining cooperation through 2028.
At the signing ceremony, Peer Naubert, managing director of Bundesliga International GmbH, emphasized the league’s goal of strengthening cooperation with the VFF in promoting youth development, coach training, and football management in Vietnam.
Naubert, who was impressed by the 2022 friendly match between Vietnam and Borussia Dortmund, promised to bring more top German clubs to the Southeast Asian country in the future.
He recalled the successful Dortmund visit, which included significant activities, and mentioned the training stint of the Vietnamese women’s team in Germany.
Naubert described Vietnam as a key market for Bundesliga and emphasized the league’s ongoing efforts to boost trade cooperation between Vietnam and German clubs.
He said discussions are underway to bring Dortmund’s youth team to Hanoi for training and friendly matches.
Asked about youth football development in Vietnam, Naubert highlighted the country’s abundance of young talent.
He praised the VFF for its efforts in identifying these talents and pledged Bundesliga’s support in guiding their development.
The goal, he said, is to see Vietnamese players make it to the Bundesliga.
VFF general secretary Nguyen Van Phu underscored the continued focus on youth football in Vietnam’s development strategy through 2030.
He noted that the VFF’s memorandum of understanding with Bundesliga, one of Europe’s top leagues and a key partner in the VFF’s strategy to enhance Vietnamese football, sets specific goals for the next stages.
“We aim to provide Vietnamese youth teams with training opportunities in Germany to gain experience and build momentum for future national teams,” Phu said.
