More than 1,000 people gathered at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian in downtown Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday morning to take part in the eighth International Day of Yoga.

The event was co-organized by the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations, the Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam, and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of External Relations.

The program commenced with performances by famous Vietnamese yoga instructors Tran Anh Tu, Nguyen Thi Vu Bao, and Le Hong Ngoc.

Yoga plays a new role in the healthy and happy lifestyle of many people, Huynh Cong Hung – vice-president of the Vietnam-India Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City – said in his opening speech, adding that yoga reflects the harmony between people and people and between humans and nature.

“Originating in India with a history of thousands of years, yoga has become a form of exercise practiced by people around the world,” said Do Viet Ha, president of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations.

“Themed ‘Yoga for Humanity,’ this year’s International Day of Yoga promotes a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with the earth in the context of post-COVID-19 normalization.”

Madan Mohan Sethi – Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City – thanked relevant units for their coordination in organizing the event, which helps boost connections and exchanges between the people of the two countries.

Following the opening ceremony, over 1,000 enthusiasts joined the mass performance of yoga poses known as asanas.
