The French fireworks team has overtaken its Italian rival to claim the championship of the 2023 Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) in the final round of the annual competition on Saturday in the eponymous city on the central coast of Vietnam.
The 2023 DIFF entered its final night by the Han River with the theme ‘A World Without Distance’ between the Italian and French teams, in the presence of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha among many local and foreign spectators.
With a spectacular and emotional fireworks display, the French contestants mesmerized the audience and won the highest honor at the festival that began on June 2, gathering eight teams from the UK, Poland, Canada, France, Finland, Australia, Italy, and Vietnam.
With the topic ‘Lighting Up Love,’ the French team made their fireworks performance on an exciting music background, which featured French, U.S.-UK, K-pop songs, and a Vietnamese song, Bay (Fly), performed by singer Thu Minh.
The audience immersed themselves in emotional love melodies and swayed to the beat of the music amid the brilliant fireworks scenes brightening the night sky.
Winning the first place, the French team received the championship trophy and a prize of US$20,000 from the organizing board, while the Italian runner-up earned $10,000.

The $3,000 creative prize went to the Polish team and the audience’s choice prize, in the same amount, was given to the Finnish contestants.
The 2023 DIFF was organized by the Da Nang administration with funding from Sun Group, one of Vietnam’s leading multi-sectoral conglomerates.
“The festival came to an end, but the city’s dreams and aspirations continue to be nurtured and spread,” Le Trung Chinh, chairman of the Da Nang administration, said in wrapping up the international event.
“We will make every effort to bring well-being and happiness to every citizen.
“We will make Da Nang a prosperous and safe city and also a sustainable and nature-friendly living environment.”
With the aforementioned theme, the local government wished to convey a message of wide connection despite geographical distances to get countries closer together with a common desire for peace, love, and the best of things, he added.
The first DIFF was held in 2008 and it was later conducted triennially before becoming an annual event since 2017.
