More than 1,000 couples joined Couple Run 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7 on Sunday morning as a fundraising drive for a mass wedding scheduled for this October in the southern metropolis.
The participating runners could both improve their physical health and make contributions to the mass wedding ceremony for less well-off workers, said the organizer.
Some 150 economically-distressed couples are expected to tie the knot at the upcoming mass wedding.
The couples will include workers of industrial parks and export processing zones, as well as state employees, teachers, and demobilized soldiers in the city and neighboring areas.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Couple Run 2023, Le Hoang Minh, director of the Young Employee Assistance Center in the city, said the mass wedding ceremony would help honor Vietnam’s traditional culture and promote the spirit of sharing and mutual affection.
“It [Couple Run] is a truly meaningful event making all runners happy,” runner Phi Hoang said after finishing the race.
The mass wedding has been held in the southern metropolis over the past 13 years, with 1,022 couples in financial distress having a proper wedding ceremony.
To join this year’s edition, couples should register before August 31.
