The first edition of an ornamental flower festival in Sa Dec City under Dong Thap Province, southern Vietnam kicked off on Saturday night, gratifying residents, flower lovers, and tourists.

The festival, which lasts until January 5, is set to reward fest-goers with various enthralling art performances and activities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Le Quoc Phong, secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said that the festival's primary objective is to showcase the substantial potential for flower cultivation in the province and to highlight the beauty of various ornamental flowers in Sa Dec to both domestic and international visitors.

Sa Dec has developed into a major flower city covering some 1,000 hectares from a small village.

The city is home to more than 2,000 types of flowers, supplying over 12 million flowery products to the local market every year.

The Sa Dec ornamental flower festival is anticipated to attract residents and visitors to appreciate the art of flower cultivation through various exhibitions and floral display spaces, contributing to the increased economic value of ornamental flowers in the region.

Tran Thanh Man, permanent vice-chairman of Vietnam's lawmaking National Assembly, expressed his hope that flower growers in the city will continue to adopt modern science and technology solutions in their farming practices to enhance yields and safeguard the environment.

Emphasizing the importance of an eco-friendly approach, Man highlighted the need for the flower city to prioritize environmental sustainability.
