The Department of Planning and Investment of Long An Province in southern Vietnam is prioritizing the capital attraction for the apricot blossom village ecotourism area project in Thanh Hoa District with a total area of 460 hectares.

The project is aimed at spurring agricultural development in tandem with exploiting the potential of tourism in the province, a representative of the department said on Sunday.

The ecotourism area, located in Tan Tay Commune, will operate for 50 years.

Some 20 years ago, some households in the commune shifted from paperbark tree farming to apricot tree cultivation when they realized the land there was suitable for the development of apricot trees.

Some 300 households in the commune are growing apricot trees with a combined area of 300 hectares.

Many farmers have made a fortune selling apricot blossoms during the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, so traders dubbed it the ‘apricot blossom village of billionaires.’

The provincial People’s Committee issued a decision acknowledging Tan Tay Yellow Apricot Tree Village in 2020, and approved a project to develop the apricot tree farming village in tandem with tourism growth in 2022.

Apart from the project, the province is also calling on investors to pour funds into a historical relic exploitation project with an area of over 98 hectares of land in Duc Hue District, and a multifunctional cultural area spanning 104 hectares in Thanh Hoa District.
