Authorities in Phu Quoc City under the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang expect throngs of tourists to travel to Phu Quoc Island, dubbed Vietnam’s ‘pearl island,’ by yacht during the upcoming holiday to celebrate the Reunification Day (April 30) and the International Workers’ Day (May 1).

Yachts operate 28 rides daily to transport passengers from the mainland to the island, according to the administration of Phu Quoc City.

The city is looking forward to seeing tourists take a yacht trip to the island to admire the sunset and enjoy their holiday there, said Huynh Quang Hung, chairman of the municipal administration.

During the holiday, the city will continue tightening control over prices, and improving the quality of services and products to cement the position of the island as an ideal and safe tourist destination in Vietnam.

Many discounted tours are on offer, while thrilling experiences such as catching squid, exploring locals’ daily life, and hunting the sunset are expected to delight travelers during the holiday.

Nguyen Van Linh, a tourist on Phu Quoc Island, said that catching squid at night is one of the most sought-after activities on the island.

Both local and international tourists have opted to experience a squid-catching tour.

“I was so excited to catch a fresh squid,” Vo Van Phuong, hailing from Ho Chi Minh City, recounted.

Kien Giang Province welcomed some 2.7 million tourists in the first three months of 2024, with 290,650 international tourist arrivals, up 49.5 percent year on year, a representative of the provincial Department of Tourism said on Saturday.

Phu Quoc City alone served more than 1.6 million travelers, including 285,000 foreigners, and earned over VND6 trillion (US$244 million) in tourism revenue during the three-month period.
