A concert duo from the German city of Karlsruhe will be on a performance tour in Vietnam from September 3 to 9, according to the German Embassy in Hanoi.
The duo, the cellist Reinhard Armleder and the pianist Dagmar Hartmann, are coordinating with the embassy to make plans for their gigs in Hanoi, Hue City in the central part, and Binh Duong Province in the southern region, the embassy said in a press release last Friday.
As a festive event for a wide audience, the concerts will include classical music from different countries and eras, including works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Robert Schumann, César Franck, Maurice Ravel, and Manuel de Falla.
The performances will take place at the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM) in Hanoi on Tuesday, at the Hue Music Academy on Thursday, and at the auditorium of the German-Vietnamese University in Binh Duong on Friday.
Admission to all three concerts is free of charge.
As a move to contribute to the musical education of young Vietnamese talents, the concert duo will also hold three master classes for VNAM students on Wednesday.
In view of the outstanding role of classical music in cultural exchange, the two’s tour will make a valuable contribution to strengthening relations between Germany and Vietnam, the embassy stated in the media release.
The Karlsruhe concert duo, which made its debut in 1999, has enjoyed significant success both in Germany and internationally.
They have won first prize at various international competitions including those in Italy, such as the Lorenzo Perosi Competition in Biella and Moncalieri, both in 1999, and the Racconigi Competition in 2001.
In France, the pair won the Concours Pierre Lantier in Paris in 2000 and the U.A.F.M. competition in Chaville in 2003.
Having graced stages in over 80 countries worldwide, the duo has garnered acclaim at a host of prestigious venues and festivals.
Their impressive résumé includes gigs at the Beethoven Society in Washington, D.C., the Schubert Society in London, the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the Festival de Musique aux Château de Bourglinster in Luxembourg, and the Festival Art November in Moscow.
This year alone, their international tour has taken them to Belgium, the Netherlands, Kenya, Uganda, Portugal, Cape Verde, Malta, and Namibia.
