Visitors passing by Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon in downtown Ho Chi Minh City at night have recently been greeted by the dazzling glow of decorative LED lights illuminating the iconic church.

This Christmas’ display is a significant upgrade, with the entire cathedral now covered in 500,000 meters of LED lights, creating a sparkling effect that has captured the attention of passersby, many of whom stop to take photos.

It’s the second year in a row that the cathedral restoration committee has decided to decorate the iconic building with LED lights for the Christmas season.

Last year, 80,000 meters of LED lights illuminated the two 60-meter-high bell towers.

Located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon draws both local and international visitors, who come to admire its beauty and capture unforgettable moments with loved ones.

Originally built by French colonists between 1863 and 1880 and named the Church of Saigon, it has been known as Notre-Dame Cathedral since 1959.

The major restoration project for the cathedral began on July 1, 2017, and is being carried out by the Belgian contractor Group Monument.

The two 58-meter-high bell towers and zinc spires have suffered the most damage during the cathedral’s long history.

The restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral has been underway for seven years.
