A 70-year-old man in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City has been giving empty beer and pop cans a second life by using them to create various attractive replicas of motorcycles and xich lo (pedicabs).

Nguyen Tan Tien shared that he was pleased to see many customers adore his products.

On Monday evening, Tien meticulously used a fast-acting adhesive to stick pieces of empty cans to create an ancient Vespa scooter.

Over the past few months, apart from helping his wife sell breakfast meals, he has been pursuing this hobby of making motorcycles and xich lo from empty beer and pop cans.

He buys these empty cans from a nearby scrap collector, cuts them into pieces, and then glues them together.

These steps create eye-catching replicas of scooters, motorcycles, and xich lo.

He can make two motorcycles out of empty cans every day.

He revealed the most important step is carefully sticking pieces to make a perfect product.

“Initially, I made the replicas for fun, but when the number of these models increased, I decided to sell them,” he recounted.

Tien often brings his miniatures to bustling areas in District 1 such as Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon and the Nguyen Van Binh book street for sale.

Their prices range from VND80,000 (US$3.1) to VND100,000 ($3.9) apiece.

“Amazed by my art, many local and international touriststook photos of them as keepsakes,” Tien said.

“I feel so happy when customers love these products,” he said, adding that he will make more replicas of houses and villas from the same material.
