Hundreds of passengers from Russia on Sunday arrived at Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam on the first commercial flight after years of disruption.
The provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism on Sunday morning held a ceremony to welcome the direct commercial flight from Russia.
Flight SU294, operated by Russian airline Aeroflot, brought 292 passengers from Moscow to the province, marking the first commercial flight between Russia and Khanh Hoa after three years of suspension.
The plane was welcomed with a water salute after it landed at the airport, while the first passengers were presented with gifts.
The resumption of direct flights from Moscow to Khanh Hoa is expected to significantly shorten travel times and reduce airfare costs, according to the provincial department.
By improving connectivity, the resumption is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening tourism and the economic partnership between Russia and Vietnam.
Before the suspension of flights in March 2022 due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Khanh Hoa Province had been a traditional destination for Russian travelers.
During the break in service, Russian tourists wishing to visit the province had to transit through countries like Kazakhstan and China, making the journey more complex and time-consuming.
Aeroflot was set to operate the route between Moscow and Khanh Hoa, with a frequency of three flights a week, using the Airbus A350-900, which has a seating capacity of 315 passengers, and the Airbus A330-300, with a capacity of 295 passengers.
