A new sea cable car link is expected to be put into operation in the northern city of Hai Phong on June 6, its developer has announced.

The Cat Hai – Phu Long cable link, which traverses over 3,955 meters of sea to connect the island communes of Dong Bai and Phu Long in Hai Phong’s Cat Hai District, is a part of the longer Cat Ba cable car system developed by Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group.

The tricable cable car link is supported by two pillars standing 214.8 meters tall each that are intended to set a record of being the cable car link with the highest pillar in the world.

The system has 60 cars capable of carrying 30 passengers each, equaling 4,500 passengers an hour.

It will cut the time to travel between Dong Bai and Phu Long to nine minutes from 20 minutes by ferry, which can involve a wait of up to three hours due to congestion.

Travelers are treated to a view of the vast ocean, natural limestone mountains, and a fishing village beneath.

The station in Dong Bai is designed to resemble a shipyard while its counterpart in Phu Long is inspired by marine life.

Ticket sales will open from June 6 with a 30-percent discount on offer until the end of June 30.
