Yen Phong 1 Industrial Park in Bac Ninh Province, located in northern Vietnam, has become the first industrial park in the country be granted access to a 5G network since military-run network operator Viettel rolled out its 5G services there on Thursday.

After Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Ninh is the third locality in Vietnam to be given 5G service coverage.

“The 5G coverage at Yen Phong 1 Industrial Park, Bac Ninh is a step toward realizing the direction of the Ministry of Information and Communications, as well as the commitment of the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group in implementing 5G services in areas with high demand such as industrial parks and high-tech zones,” a representative of the group said.

According to the representative, 5G coverage in the aforementioned industrial park is considered a flywheel for the same developments at all other major industrial parks in both Bac Ninh and the whole country and should prepare infrastructure for low latency applications and industrial automatic control.

According to Viettel, during the trial service, customers in the 5G coverage area in Bac Ninh can use the operator’s 5G data for free with unlimited capacity.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam hailed that the 5G coverage at Yen Phong 1 Industrial Park is a suitable step to test the special features of 5G technology applied in industrial production.
