The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and the People's Committee of Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam on Saturday inaugurated the T2 Terminal of Phu Bai International Airport.

The terminal’s design was modelled after the Ngu Mountain, the Huong River, and the architecture of Hue imperial palaces.

Construction of the T2 Terminal, whose investor is the ACV, began on December 12, 2019.

The facility has a capacity of five million passengers per year, including one million international passengers and four million domestic guests, and required an investment of nearly VND2.3 trillion (US$97.8 million).

Its exterior architecture is inspired by Hue imperial palaces with cascading roof layers.

ACV chairman Lai Xuan Thanh said Thua Thien-Hue is an economic, cultural, scientific, and technological hub of Vietnam and a gateway to the East-West Economic Corridor connecting Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos with the East Vietnam Sea.

However, the infrastructure at Phu Bai International Airport has downgraded and failed to serve the increasing number of passengers.

The inauguration of the T2 Terminal will better serve the travel by air of tourists to Thua Thien-Hue, contributing to boosting the tourism, economy, and culture development in the province and the central region as a whole.

This is the first terminal that the ACV has applied digital transformation and upgraded digital infrastructure with self-check-in kiosks, an automatic announcement system, and a biometric identification system, among others, to provide passengers with convenience, Thanh added.
