Ca Mau Province, the southern tip of Vietnam, will host a shrimp festival and a forum to promote One Commune One Product (OCOP) products in the Mekong Delta from December 13 to 16, attracting some 100,000 attendees, the provincial People’s Committee informed on Monday.

The festival is expected to feature 600 booths with shrimp products.

Through these activities, Ca Mau will promote its potential for sustainable development of the shrimp sector, introduce new products and models, and connect shrimp farmers, processors, consumers, and exporters, said Le Van Su, vice-chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

This will be also an opportunity for Ca Mau to introduce its strengths in economy, culture, and tourism to call on domestic and foreign investors to contribute to the province’s socio-economic development.

Following the success of a crab festival last year, the shrimp festival, with trade, investment, and tourism promotion forums as well as cultural and entertainment activities, will help the local shrimp sector with new development plans to recover and stabilize the import markets for shrimp.

Ca Mau leads Vietnam in shrimp farming area with over 280,000 hectares and has an output of more than 220,000 metric tons of shrimp, accounting for 40 and 22 percent of the whole country’s total shrimp farming area and output, respectively.
