Residents in Ho Chi Minh City and other southern Vietnamese provinces are expected to see a noticeable drop in temperatures and a decrease in rainfall over the next few days, according to the southern hydrometeorological agency.
The decline in precipitation levels and temperatures is attributed to a weakening low-pressure trough and a continental cold air mass, whose arrival in southern Vietnam has affected the weather in the region and neighboring areas.
In Ho Chi Minh City, early morning temperatures could drop to 22 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs will possibly range from 28 to 29 degrees Celsius.
The agency added there would be cloudy skies and mild sunshine during the day.
City residents may also experience scattered showers late in the afternoon or in the evening.
This is considered the strongest cold wave of the season so far and the first to have a clear impact on the southern region’s weather.
Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces often have consistent temperatures throughout the year.
The southern metropolis experiences two distinct seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. Typically, temperatures hover around 30 degrees Celsius, accompanied by frequent sunshine.
From the beginning of 2024 to early May, the city had experienced 79 days of intense heat, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, making it a record-breaking year for hot days in nearly 30 years, Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper reported, citing meteorologist Le Dinh Quyet.
