Police in District 1, Ho Chi Minh Ciy on Monday detained a car driver for repeatedly beating a motorbike rider in front of Tu Du Maternity Hospital after the motorcyclist asked him to move out of a lane for motorbikes.
The driver, named Quach Minh Nhut, a 33-year-old resident of District 6, Ho Chi Minh City, was charged with deliberately causing injuries.
The incident took place at 1:40 pm on Saturday. The victim was 50-year-old T.T.T., a District 1 resident, who was taking his child to school.
While passing through Tu Du Maternity Hospital, T. noticed that Nhut's car was moving slowly in the motorbike lane, blocking traffic.
T. asked Nhut to move aside to allow motorbikes to pass.
However, Nhut immediately exited his vehicle and struck T. in the face, head, and back of the neck, knocking off his helmet.
Nhut continued to hit T.’s face before two women getting out of Nhut’s car asked him to stop.
T. felt dizzy, so he asked passers-by to report the case to police in Pham Ngu Lao Ward, District 1.
Nhut was summoned to the police station for questioning on Monday.
He declared that he was carrying his mother, wife, and son to Tu Du Maternity Hospital at 12:30 pm on Saturday last week to have his son’s health checked.
As the area was congested and T. blamed him for it, Nhut attacked T. in his face and head nine times.
Nhut later slapped T.’s face and knocked him to the ground despite Nhut’s mother and wife dissuading him.
T. has filed a criminal complaint against Nhut, so District 1 police has asked T. to undergo a medical examination to determine the severity of his injuries.
