Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday opened the 2024 cybersecurity drill, which will run until Saturday.
The drill is designed with one team acting as hackers, continuously trying to identify and exploit vulnerabilities in Ho Chi Minh City's digital citizen app. This hacking team is made up of experts from various organizations, including Center 286 under High Command 86, the cybersecurity center at Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City, Viettel Cyber Security, part of Vietnam's military-operated telecom company Viettel, HPT Vietnam Corporation.
On the other side, the defense team comprises managers and technicians from the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, the city's cybersecurity incident response team, and technical staff from the information system service providers.
A panel of judges will oversee the competition, closely monitoring the proceedings and ultimately delivering the final scores.
Nguyen Duc Chung, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, stated that the drill is intended to enhance participants' abilities and skills in managing and responding to cybersecurity incidents.
“We expect the participating teams will improve their professional knowledge and practice teamwork skills to handle incidents in real life," said Chung.
"This is also an opportunity to detect and minimize weaknesses in terms of technology, process, and personnel – key factors of the security of all information systems.”
He highlighted that an information security training program was held along with the drill.
The program includes hypothetical situations to improve the skills of information technology staff at departments, agencies, state-owned enterprises, hospitals, and news agencies.
Three scenarios will take place, focusing on prevention of ransomware attacks against key infrastructure facilities; prevention of attacks against supply chains; plus identification and prevention of fraud and social engineering attacks.
