Spectrum of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in Asia, with over 4,000 international travelers on board made a stop at the Tan Cang – Cai Mep Terminal in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam on Tuesday morning.
This was the third time the cruise ship had arrived in the province.
As soon as the cruise ship docked at the terminal, local travel firm Saigontourist was ready with dozens of coaches to transport the travelers to tourist sites.
Tran Thi Thu Hien, deputy director of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Tourism, said more than 3,000 out of the 4,000 passengers registered for tours to explore rural areas, craft villages, and shopping venues in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City, and the southwestern region.
The arrival of Spectrum of the Seas in Ba Ria-Vung Tau was considered an event to mark the recovery of the international cruise tourism sector in Vietnam after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Therefore, chairman of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tho and representatives of the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, and other agencies boarded the cruise ship to express their congratulations.
Mark Byrd, a U.S. passenger on the ship, said he was happy to arrive in Vietnam, specifically Ba Ria-Vung Tau as this was a nice place for him to explore and experience culture and customs.
He was fond of vegetarian food so he would experience Vietnamese vegetarian cuisine, Byrd added.
Spectrum of the Seas left Ba Ria-Vung Tau on the same day for Singapore before ending its 12-day journey to Asian countries, including Japan, China, Vietnam, and Singapore.
