Vietnam has the potential to become a major regional and global logistics hub, an official said at the 2023 FIATA World Congress in Brussels, Belgium.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, certain logistic activities in Asia have shifted, with serval companies now using Vietnam as a logistics hub, according to Stéphane Graber, director general of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA).
The increase in production in Vietnam has also created several opportunities for the country to develop as a logistics center.
“Vietnam not only benefits from [this trend] but also has advantages as it has sufficient transport means, including road, air, sea, railway, and waterway transport, to become a logistics center in the region and the world,” Stéphane noted.
The FIATA representative stressed that Vietnam was applying the best practices in logistics development and had a realistic demand for internal logistics training.
FIATA will closely cooperate with the Vietnam Logistics Business Association to enhance logistics training in the country.
“We expect Vietnamese logistics enterprises can access new trends and work out solutions to adapt to climate change and the current business environment,” said Dang Vu Thanh, vice chairman of the association.
“This is also an opportunity for enterprises to exchange, connect, and cooperate in appropriate fields.”
FIATA chose Vietnam as the host country for the 2025 FIATA World Congress.
Thanh shared hopes that the event would attract global logistics firms, create conditions for Vietnamese ones to learn from international companies’ experiences, and boost their cooperation, thus contributing to developing Vietnam’s logistics sector in a digital and green manner and turning the country into a major logistics center.
The 2023 FIATA World Congress, which will wrap up on Friday, is one of the largest and most important events in the logistics industry. This year’s edition attracted over 1,000 delegates from 80 countries and territories.
The Vietnam delegation at the congress included 20 leaders from the Vietnam Logistics Business Association and logistics businesses.
