Ba Ba Hoi Cooperative in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam has shipped a container of 32,000 banh chung (square glutinous rice cakes) to the U.S.

The cakes will be put on shelves of supermarkets in the U.S. from mid-December this year so that Vietnamese people abroad can buy banh chung for the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, in February 2024.

The 10-metric-ton shipment of banh chung was transported to Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday morning for the completion of customs clearance procedures before being exported stateside by sea.

Huynh Thi Thu Thuy, the owner of the Ba Ba Hoi Banh Chung Xanh (Green Square Glutinous Rice Cakes) brand, said the export of the banh chung batch to the U.S. was a result of the cooperation with a partner in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ba Ba Hoi Cooperative invested in modern machines, prepared materials, and completed products for many months.

“The banh chung was made in a strict process meeting the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s standards and exported via an official channel,” Thuy added.
