Close to 400 exhibitors from Vietnam and abroad have set up booths at the Vietnam Foodexpo 2023, which kicked off at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday.
These exhibitors represent 30 provinces and cities in Vietnam and over 20 countries from around the world, including the U.S., Russia, Australia, China, South Korea, and Japan.
They are exhibiting a wide selection of farm produce, aquaculture products, processed foodstuffs, beverages, along with food processing, preservation, and packaging technologies at more than 500 booths.
Stalls displaying local specialties such as cashew nuts from Binh Phuoc Province, coffee beans from Dak Lak Province, or mangoes from Dong Thap Province are among the most popular at the four-day trade show.
Nguyen Van Tien from Mr. 9 Agriculture Company in Dong Thap, one of the Vietnamese exhibitors, said the firm is seeking to export its mangoes, dragon fruits, and coconuts to other countries.
Tien revealed that many Chinese and Japanese businesses have expressed interest in Mr.9-branded fruits and have also discussed plans to import the produce.
Given declining domestic consumption, the expo is expected to pave the way for local firms like Mr. 9 company to expand to new export markets, Tien added.
Speaking at the trade show’s opening ceremony, Do Thang Hai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, said the Vietnam Foodexpo is the largest food industry event in Vietnam and is integral to the promotion of local food products.
