The leaders of three Vietnamese airlines – Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, Vietravel Airlines – are on the hunt to find new jobs for their employees, particularly flight crew, as they downsize their workforce to cope with ongoing economic uncertainty.

At Bamboo Airways, which is undergoing a major reshuffle to balance its budget, the carrier cut two-third of its fleet and 80 percent of its air route numbers, according to the carrier’s General Director Luong Hoai Nam.

Almost 100 pilots and 500 flight attendants at Bamboo Airways were made redundant, Nam said, adding that the carrier is working with other airlines to find employment for these former-Bamboo Airways staff.

Low-budget carrier Vietjet has accepted to hire 50 flight attendants and 20 pilots from Bamboo Airways, while national flag carrier Vietnam airlines is considering the request, he elaborated.

Pacific Airlines, a member company of Vietnam Airlines Group, also slashed its fleet from 11 aircraft to three, while Vietravel Airlines trimmed its fleet from six to three.

A source from Vietnam Airlines revealed that the carrier has plans to onboard nearly 100 Pacific Airlines flight attendants.

The general director of a local airline told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that his carrier has had to cut its fleet and flight frequency to minimum levels, resulting in hundreds of employee redudancies.

This carrier has had to seek out job opportunities for its redundant employees, particularly cabin crew, as it would be difficult for them to find suitable jobs in the year-end period, the general director said.

Findings from Tuoi Tre showed that Vietravel Airlines and Pacific Airlines currently employ 70-80 cabin crew members on flights operated on three aircraft. More personnel could be recruited when business performance improves.
