Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam will follow international management and operation standards which are similar to those at Changi Airport in Singapore.
With such a big change, the local airport is moving toward increasing its capacity to 8-10 million passengers a year from the current 6.8 million.
The application of Singaporean standards at Cam Ranh International Airport is part of a deal signed on Tuesday between Changi Airports International (CAI) and Cam Ranh International Terminal JSC.
Pursuant to the agreement, Cam Ranh International Airport will gradually go digital, such as applying check-in technology and refunding value-added tax automatically, as Changi Airport does.
CAI, a leading consultant, manager, and investor in the global aviation market, has cooperated with over 60 airports in 20 countries, especially Singapore’s Changi Airport.
Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, Cam Ranh International Airport catered to nearly 6.8 million passengers and hosted operations for over 30 airlines.
The airport was linked to more than 80 destinations worldwide then.

In early 2024, the airport cooperated with three air carriers to open new routes and turn the province into a new destination for tourists from Europe and Asia.
Changi Airport is renowned for modern amenities and services, as well as a duty-free shopping center with a variety of professional stores in which all products from clothes and gifts to electronic items are available.
The Singaporean airport also houses lounges, video-game rooms, cinemas, libraries, spas, and cuisine spaces.
Apart from automated check-in technology and entry registration services via smartphones, the airport is adopting biometric authentication systems and utilizing artificial intelligence to transport luggage, making it luxurious and more convenient for passengers.
Changi Airport has been the best airport in the world for several decades.
The collaboration between the Vietnamese firm and CAI is anticipated to boost Vietnam's tourism and enhance cooperation between nations in the region, said Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, a significant shareholder in Cam Ranh International Airport.
