Ho Chi Minh City has continued its efforts to promote night-time economy by offering night-time entertainment services in District 6 in the near future, according to a local official.
Vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Dung on Tuesday worked with the District 6 administration on a detailed plan to develop the Cho Lon night quarter, which will cover an area of 1,510 square meters.
The night quarter, set to open from 6:00 pm to midnight, will make the most use of the sidewalks on four streets surrounding Binh Tay Market, namely Nguyen Huu Than, Thap Muoi, Le Tan Ke, Tran Binh.
Authorities will set up food trucks, food carts, parking spaces, public toilets, a light system, a community space, and many others in the night quarter, where a vast array of local food, souvenirs, electronic products, fashion items will be offered at 41 booths.
This venue will also host cultural and music performances to serve visitors.
The Binh Tay Market management authority will be responsible for operating the night quarter.
Vuong Thanh Lieu, vice-chairwoman of the District 6 administration, said that the Cho Lon night quarter along with the iconic Binh Tay Market are expected to help promote local tourism.

The district is set to connect the night quarter with popular food destinations in neighboring District 5 and District 11 in order to form a major tourist zone in the city, Lieu elaborated.
The operations of the night quarter will leave little impact on the lives of local inhabitants at night, as authorities already took into account the pros and cons when selecting this venue to open the night quarter, Lieu added.
Le Thi Thanh Thao, chairwoman of the District 6 administration, stressed that the operations of the night quarter will not follow the crowd but pursue a sustainable development model.
Located in the southwest of the city, District 6 shares a border with District 11, District 5, District 8, Binh Tan and Tan Phu Districts.
Binh Tay Market in District 6 was recognized by the city’s administration as an architectural and artistic relic site as well as a tourist destination.
