The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China have agreed to ramp up cooperation in agricultural trade and open the door for more Vietnamese products to enter the Chinese market.

A delegation of the General Administration of Customs of China led by Zhao Zenglian, vice minister of the administration, paid a visit to Vietnam and worked with the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Thursday.

Following talks between Zhao Zenglian and Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung, they signed a protocol on quarantine requirements for monkeys exported from Vietnam to China. 

Vietnam will export long-tailed macaques to the northern neighbor for research purposes.

The two officials also witnessed the conclusion of negotiations on a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for Vietnamese fresh coconuts to be exported to China.

The two sides will soon complete procedures to ink the protocol.

Vietnam and China are expected to enter into another protocol on phytosanitary requirements for frozen durians as well.

As for passion fruits and chilies that have been exported to China on a pilot basis, the two sides will accelerate the completion of procedures for signing protocols on the official export of the two products in the near future.

They will coordinate to complete protocols on the export of crocodiles, raw bird's nests, poultry and seafood products from Vietnam to China as well.

The Chinese side said they would assign relevant agencies to review and early handle export applications of Vietnamese enterprises.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China also agreed on measures to remove obstacles to China’s sturgeon exports to the Vietnamese market.

China will support Vietnam in enhancing the capacity to quarantine sturgeon species.

To date, Vietnam and China have signed 21 memoranda of understanding and protocols on the shipment of agro-forestry-fishery products between the two countries, proving their close cooperation.

Vietnam has exported 12 kinds of vegetables and fruits, including watermelons, mangosteens, black jelly, durians, fresh bananas, sweet potatoes, dragon fruits, rambutans, mangos, longans, lychees, jackfruits, bird’s nests, fish powder, dairy products, seafood, and some products serving the animal feed production.

In the first five months of this year, the two countries’ bilateral trade of agro-forestry-fishery products reached US$6.2 billion, inching up 2.9 percent year on year.

The Southeast Asian country exported $4.6 billion worth of products to the Chinese market and spent $1.6 billion on imports from the neighbor.
