Vietnamese enterprises are in a bullish mood as the number of new export orders has soared ahead of the forthcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

Many garment company representatives told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Sunday that they have secured enough export orders for the third quarter and are now negotiating orders for the fourth quarter.

Than Duc Viet, general director of Garment 10 Corporation, stated that the company has accepted export orders through October.

Viet predicted that export orders will continue to rise until the end of the year due to upcoming major holidays.

Tran Nhu Tung, vice-chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, added that if there are no major global uncertainties, the domestic apparel market will recover well from now until the end of the year.

Tung attributed an upbeat outlook for the apparel market to the Federal Reserve’s plan to lower interest rates and higher demand in the rest of the year.

However, he said that the biggest challenge in the apparel sector is the low value of orders.

“Many firms have hesitated to accept orders due to low prices,” Tung said, adding that difficulties in recruiting workers and delivering goods in time might put pressure on them.

Dony Garment Company has received orders set until the end of September, but their value is low, said Pham Quang Anh, director of the firm.

Over the past few years, the company has cut the profit of each product to 60 - 70 percent against the previous period, he said, assessing that the reduction is a long-term trend.

Meanwhile, the agriculture industry has seen an upturn in exports of fruits and vegetables, while their prices are also on the rise.

The price of durians grown in the Central Highlands region stands at up to VND95,000 (US$3.7) per kilogram, up VND20,000 ($0.78) a kilogram month on month.

As the durian harvest season in Thailand and Malaysia is going to end soon, China has focused on its imports of durians from Vietnam, leading to an increase in the price of the fruit, said Nguyen Tan Dat, who owns a fruit export firm in Ho Chi Minh City.

Dat stated that Vietnam’s Central Highlands region, which accounts for half of the country’s total durian output, is about to enter the durian harvest season.

Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetables Association, told Tuoi Tre on Sunday last week that between January and June, the country was estimated to export some $1.5 billion worth of durians.

Given the positive figure, Vietnam is expected to ship durians worth up to $2 billion to foreign markets in the second half of the year, Nguyen said.

The prices of other agricultural products such as coffee beans are on the upward trend.

Moreover, the food and foodstuff sphere also felt some positive signs of growth in the local market following a surge in export orders.

A representative of Duy Anh Foods Import Export Company in Ho Chi Minh City said that the firm has seen a boost in the shipment of dried noodles and rice paper to Europe, South Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.

Nguyen Phuoc Hung, vice-president of the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association, said that the food processing sector has made great strides, fetching a total export value of over $2 billion during the first five months of 2024, up some 70 percent year on year.
