About one-fifth of Vietnamese who took an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test in the 2023-24 period got a score of 6.0, making it the most common among the test takers, according to a recent IELTS report.
Twenty-one percent of Vietnamese test takers achieved a score of 6.0, while 18 percent got 6.5.
Another 18 percent scored 5.5, while just one percent was graded 8.5 or higher.
Vietnamese IELTS test takers scored an average of 6.2 during the period, landing Vietnam in 29th place among 39 nations and territories hosting IELTS Academic tests during the time frame.
In 2022, Vietnam was in 23rd spot on a list of 40 nations where IELTS tests were administered, with an average score of 6.2.
IELTS band scores are between zero and nine, based on four sections, namely listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
Between 2023 and 2024, the average scores of Vietnamese test takers were 6.3 in listening, 6.4 in reading, 6.0 in writing, and 5.7 in speaking.
The latest report also showed that Vietnam ranked fourth in Southeast Asia, after the Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar.
Malaysia and Spain topped the list with an average score of 7.1, followed by Italy with 7.0.
IELTS, an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers, is accepted by over 12,500 organizations worldwide, including academic institutions, recruiters, and immigration agencies.
The IELTS test has two modules: Academic and General Training.
In Vietnam, many universities accept IELTS certificates as a substitute for English proficiency test scores.
