Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's two-day trip to Russia to attend the expanded BRICS Summit yielded remarkable achievements in both bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, enhancing Vietnam’s international standing.

The Vietnamese government leader returned to Hanoi at noon on Friday, successfully concluding his trip to Russia from Wednesday through Thursday at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The summit gathered more than 40 leaders and representatives from BRICS member nations and guests from other countries, including those in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, a member of the Vietnamese delegation to Russia, emphasized that this visit demonstrated Vietnam’s commitment to global cooperation.

During the trip spanning just 30 hours with over 25 consecutive events, PM Chinh’s participation in the expanded BRICS Summit and other activities in Russia brought significant outcomes to both multilateral and bilateral relations, Son told the press that accompanied the Vietnamese delegation to Russia.

At the summit, PM Chinh promoted a global, people-centered, and comprehensive approach, advocating for multilateralism and international unity to address global challenges.

His proposal for BRICS to enhance five strategic connections across resources, strategic infrastructure, global supply chains, people-to-people ties, and global governance reform reflected Vietnam’s commitment to collaborative solutions.

“Vietnam stands ready to join BRICS and the international community in working toward the noble goal of creating a better world,” Son said.

PM Chinh’s remarks at the summit conveyed a strong message about a Vietnam that is resilient, self-reliant, self-confident, independent, and on the way to bolster its socio-economic growth.

The prime minister’s speech spotlighted Vietnam as a nation with a strategic approach to resolving global issues.

Leaders and delegates at the summit responded positively to PM Chinh’s perspectives and proposals, which made meaningful contributions to the summit’s outcomes, Son added.

Highlighting PM Chinh’s bilateral meetings with Russian leaders and those from other countries, Son elaborated that these engagements were set to deepen Vietnam’s relations with international partners across the board.

During the trip, PM Chinh met with President Putin, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, along with ministers and key business leaders in Russia.

The top Vietnamese and Russian officials affirmed that the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and Russia has paved the way for their comprehensive strategic partnership to advance further.

Both sides agreed to strengthen political trust through increased exchanges and high-level visits.

Regarding their trade ties, both nations adopted the Vietnam-Russia Cooperation Plan until 2030.

They agreed to improve the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation mechanisms and maximize the benefits of the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement, so as to foster smoother bilateral trade, advance major projects, and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure and energy.

Aside from these traditional areas, both nations consented to collaborate further in science - technology, innovation, green and digital transitions, education, culture, and tourism.

Hanoi and Moscow have been committed to ongoing close cooperation and mutual support at international and regional forums.

They advocate for a fair international order grounded in international law and the United Nations Charter, and they promote the peaceful resolution of disputes.

Prime Minister Chinh and other top leaders pledged to enhance exchanges at all levels and strengthen cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, and investment, while exploring new fields such as digital and green transitions, the circular economy, and the knowledge-based economy.

Son revealed that in the upcoming years, Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and localities will coordinate closely with international partners to fulfill their agreements, remove obstacles in cooperation, and propose new measures of collaboration in line with mutual interests to support Vietnam’s development goals.
