Typhoon Trami, the sixth storm to hit the East Vietnam Sea this year, battered central Vietnam before noon on Sunday, bringing strong winds and downpours to several localities.
The eye of the typhoon was spotted in the mainland from Thua Thien Hue to Da Nang at 12:00 pm, with winds of up to 88kph.
The typhoon hit the coast off Thua Thien-Hue Province with damaging winds and heavy rains, leading to many parts of the central province to be flooded.
After making landfall in the central region, the powerful storm is forecast to change its direction, go back to the sea, and weaken into a tropical depression.

Quang Tri Province ready for rescue efforts
Border guards in Quang Tri Province came to households in landslide-prone areas to move locals to safer places before the storm’s arrival.
At noon on Sunday, Trami knocked out power to several communes, which house dozens of residents, in Vinh Linh District.
Four eateries along the coast in Gio Linh District collapsed due to the impact of the typhoon, which also sank a fishing boat in Vinh Linh.

Da Nang bans residents from venturing out
A warehouse containing handicrafts in Cam Le District, Da Nang City crumbled when the typhoon swept through the city.
Rain started to pour down in the city at 10:00 am, while strong winds uprooted several trees on local streets.
Residents were told not to leave their houses to ensure their safety during the typhoon.
In response to the disaster, many eateries and restaurants closed, and numerous households braced their glass windows with bamboo ladders to minimize damage.
Several trees along Nguyen Chanh and Ton Duc Thang streets in Lien Chieu District fell, damaging power lines.

Quang Nam steps up efforts to evacuate locals
The administration of Phuoc Gia Commune in Hiep Duc District said on Sunday morning that 30 households with 163 people had been evacuated to safer shelters out of concerns over landslides following the typhoon.
Many vehicles were mobilized to get ready for rescue operations.
Before the typhoon hit Quang Nam Province, forces blocked the roads leading to the sea and evacuated residents living in flood-prone areas.
The province has been experiencing damaging winds and downpours since 9:15 am.

Quang Ngai Province quickens evacuation of residents
Powerful winds began lashing Quang Ngai at 9:30 am the same day.
Ly Son District had earlier evacuated 134 households, totaling 412 people.
Meanwhile, 29 households from the mountainous areas of Son Ha and Tra Bong Districts were moved to shelters to prevent potential landslides and flash floods.
Trami topples trees, cuts power in Thua Thien-Hue Province
Downpours and powerful winds uprooted several trees and flooded some areas in Thua Thien-Hue Province on Sunday.
Lots of parts of the province are without power.
When the storm pounded the province, it blew away ad billboards along some streets.
The typhoon forced Thua Thien-Hue to evacuate over 4,400 households with 18,300 people, according to the provincial steering board for disaster prevention, search, and rescue.
