Grand Pioneers Cruise, operated by Viet Thuan Group in Ha Long Bay, has outpaced 19 other nominees from Germany, Italy, Norway, France, Ecuador, Sweden, the UK, and the U.S. to win the World’s Best Green Cruise Line 2024 award. 

Grand Pioneers Cruise is the first Vietnamese cruise brand to claim this title.

Representatives from international cruise lines attended the fourth annual World Cruise Awards Gala Ceremony hosted by Funchal in Madeira, Portugal on Sunday last week.

The World Cruise Awards serves to recognize, reward, and celebrate excellence in the global cruise industry through an annual award program.

Among the international brands nominated for the World’s Best Green Cruise Line 2024 category were Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, and Virgin Voyages.

Votes were cast by cruise experts and the public, with the nominee receiving the most votes in a category named the winner. 

The Vietnamese company was honored as the best green cruise line in 2024 for its efforts in protecting the ecosystem of Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO-recognized world natural heritage site, as well as the wild beauty of Bai Tu Long Bay.

The prize marked a milestone for the Vietnamese cruise sector in the global market.

The World Cruise Awards is the sister event of the World Travel Awards, which was launched in 1994 to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.

During the Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2024 of the World Travel Awards held in Portugal the same day, Vietnam’s Hoi An Memories Land was named the World’s Leading Cultural Tourism & Entertainment Complex 2024, and Hoiana Resort & Golf in Quang Nam Province secured the World's Leading Fully Integrated Resort 2024 title.

Early in September, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and other localities won multiple awards for various categories at the Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony of the World Travel Awards 2024 held in the Philippines’ Manila.

Vietnam was announced as ‘Asia’s Leading Destination 2024,’ ‘Asia’s Leading Heritage Destination 2024,’ and ‘Asia’s Leading Nature Destination 2024.'

Ho Chi Minh City was accredited as ‘Asia’s Leading Business Travel Destination 2024’ and ‘Asia’s Leading Festival & Event Destination 2024.’

Besides, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism was named ‘Asia’s Leading City Tourist Board 2024.’

Hanoi claimed the ‘Asia’s Leading City Destination 2024’ and ‘Asia’s Leading City Break Destination’ titles at the event.
