Phuoc An Port, the largest port in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam on Thursday welcomed its first international vessel, the M/V MSC BEIRA IV, operated by the world’s largest container shipping line MSC.
The ship, which departed from Singapore, marked a significant milestone for the port and for Dong Nai’s role in international trade.
The welcoming ceremony highlighted Phuoc An Port’s growing importance as a logistics hub in Vietnam.
Phuoc An Port’s general director Truong Hoang Hai said that the vessel carried over 1,300 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of goods, mainly consisting of textiles, fashion items, and dyed fabrics.
Sprawling on the banks of the Thi Vai River in Nhon Trach District, Phuoc An Port spans 183 hectares, featuring specialized areas for port operations and logistics services.
The port includes six container berths and four general cargo berths, capable of accommodating 60,000 DWT vessels.
Phuoc An Port is a key part of the southern seaport network, which connects Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai Province, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, and was officially approved in August 2005.
Construction of the VND20 trillion (US$788 million) port kicked off in 2019.
The first phase of the port was put into operation in late 2024.
The port is able to handle 2.2 million TEUs and up to five million metric tons of general cargo annually.
During the welcoming ceremony for the MSC vessel, Nguyen Duong Hoai, deputy head of the Dong Nai Customs Department, underscored Phuoc An Port’s modern infrastructure and reiterated that it is the largest and most advanced port in the province.

Hub for green port development
Many enterprises consider Phuoc An Port a safe, convenient, and cost-efficient port, while it is positioning itself as a green port, adhering to international standards to attract global shipping companies, said Hai.
The arrival of the MSC ship at Phuoc An Port signaled a promising future for the port as it aims to draw more international vessels, helping facilitate import-export operations and strengthen the port’s position on the global logistics map.
Hai revealed that the port aims to boost performance in 2025 by increasing the number of shipments it receives and expanding its customer service offerings.
Its future plans include creating a more efficient environment for businesses by enabling them to directly pick up empty containers and transport goods on-site, cutting costs and time while optimizing supply chain processes.
Phuoc An Port has set a goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030, a key component of its long-term development strategy.
The port is acting as a front runner in implementing carbon emissions reduction measures, investing in green port infrastructure, and modernizing its equipment to run on clean energy.
Moreover, a significant portion of the port’s operations has shifted to electric-powered systems.

Building an international green transport corridor
Phuoc An Port has been actively collaborating with international shipping companies, logistics enterprises, and supply chain partners to establish a global green transport corridor.
The effort aligns with global sustainability trends and is seen as a critical driver for enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam’s maritime industry in the global market.
The port’s logistics service area, located in the heart of the southern key economic region, covers more than 550 hectares and is well-connected by modern road and waterway systems.
The area is being developed with multiple functional zones to support ‘Door to Door’ logistics services, catering to oil and gas industries, as well as industrial zones in Dong Nai Province, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong Province, and surrounding areas.
